Spotify has reported that since December, their top developers haven't manually written a line of code. Instead, they are using an AI-powered system named 'Honk' that leverages generative AI and Claude Code to accelerate development workflows. This system enables engineers to carry out coding tasks remotely and in real-time through a mobile interface on Slack.
The process is streamlined to the point where an engineer can initiate bug fixes or feature additions via Slack on their phone during a morning commute. The AI, Claude, completes the required coding work and pushes a new app version back to the engineer's Slack app before they even reach the office. This efficient workflow is credited with dramatically increasing coding and deployment speeds.
Throughout 2025, Spotify has implemented over 50 new features and continuous modifications to their streaming app. Recent AI-enhanced offerings include Prompted Playlists and Page Match for audiobooks, as well as the 'About This Song' feature.
