OpenClaw v2026.9.8 Ships GPT-6.1 Sol, Fixes Windows Startup and Web UI Tabs
OpenClaw v2026.9.8 is out. The release bundles 43 pull requests from 8 contributors, and the headline item is GPT-6.1 Sol, now reachable through the OpenAI provider for accounts that have access.
What's in the release
- GPT-6.1 Sol via the OpenAI provider — available for accounts with access. If you already have OpenAI configured in OpenClaw, this is a model swap rather than a new integration.
- Agent reply routing — replies coming back from other agents stay tied to the conversation that requested the work. Useful if you're running multiple concurrent sessions and were seeing responses land in the wrong thread.
- Codex memory usage — Codex now uses less unnecessary memory in larger setups. Nothing more specific than that in the notes, but it matters if you run long-lived Codex sessions or many of them.
- Web UI fixes — tabs left open through an update no longer break, and accidental session assignment is prevented.
- Update fixes — plugin settings survive updates, temporary Windows file locks during update no longer block the process, and Windows startup problems are addressed.
Notes for Windows users
Two of the fixes are Windows-specific: temporary file locks that could stall an update, and startup problems. If your OpenClaw updates have been failing partway through on Windows, this is the version to move to.
Notes on model access
GPT-6.1 Sol is gated behind "accounts with access" per the release notes — it's not an unconditional model drop. Availability depends on your OpenAI account, not the OpenClaw build itself.
Scope
The highlights above are a subset. The full release notes cover the rest of the 43 PRs, which is where you'll find the smaller plugin, provider, and UI changes that don't get called out.
If you're on an older build, the practical reasons to update are the Windows update/startup fixes and the agent reply routing change. The GPT-6.1 Sol addition is the one that depends on whether your account already has access.
